CSOs Reject NURTW Chairman’s Endorsement in Kosofe Constituency 2
A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kosofe Local Government has strongly condemned the recent political endorsement reportedly made by the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Sego, concerning representation in Kosofe Constituency 2.
In a press release dated Friday, May 8, 2026, the coalition described the endorsement as inappropriate, unacceptable, and an attempt to impose external influence on the democratic choices of the people of the constituency.
The group stated that representation in Kosofe Constituency 2 must remain the exclusive decision of residents and stakeholders within the community, guided by democratic principles, credible leadership evaluation, and the free will of the electorate.
According to the coalition, the circumstances surrounding the endorsement raise concerns about political interference, coercive influence, and attempts to undermine the autonomy of the constituency.
“Kosofe Constituency 2 is not a political territory to be dictated by external actors or leveraged for sectional interests,” the statement read. “It is a community defined by civic consciousness, indigenous heritage, and a long-standing commitment to participatory governance.”
The coalition warned that any effort to override the wishes of the people would be viewed as an affront to the dignity and democratic rights of residents.
The CSOs also rejected the endorsement in its entirety, insisting that the people of Kosofe Constituency 2 would not accept political imposition, intimidation, or externally driven influence in determining their representation.
They emphasized that democratic representation must emerge solely through lawful, transparent, and peaceful electoral processes.
The coalition further called on political actors and affiliated groups to operate within the bounds of civility and legality, while urging security and regulatory authorities to remain vigilant against actions capable of disrupting public peace or undermining democratic engagement in the constituency.
The statement also appealed to all stakeholders to exercise restraint and uphold democratic values, stressing that political legitimacy must be earned through trust, performance, and grassroots acceptance rather than externally imposed endorsements.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting democratic rights in the area, the coalition maintained that the future of Kosofe Constituency 2 would be determined only by its people through lawful and participatory means.
The statement was signed by Comrade Alex Omotehinse, Convener of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Kosofe Local Government.
