NPA driver accused of killing ‘motor boy’ at Lagos port

 


An unnamed towing vehicle driver with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been accused of killing a truck boy inside the port in Lagos. The accident which happened at around 4pm on Friday attracted a small demonstration within the premises of the NPA. [SEE VIDEO]


According to report, the management of the authority called on the police who dispersed the protesters by firing teargas into the crowd.


A security officer at the port, who pleaded not to be named told GidiNews over the phone on Saturday morning that, the motor boy had climbed the moving truck when he mistakenly slipped and fell. He said it was in the process that the driver ran over him.


“The police was trying to calm the situation, but the guys were throwing stones which eventually broke a towing truck wind screen and also a glass of the NPA patrol van. When the port security officers couldn’t calm the situation, the police had to disperse the protesters with teargas.” He said


The port authority has not issued a statement as of the time of filing this report.
