The Lagos State Office for Civic Engagement has intensified its commitment to social inclusion, citizen welfare, and community development through a series of impactful intervention programmes targeted at vulnerable residents across the state.
This was disclosed yesterday during annual ministerial press briefing held in ikeja
As part of its ongoing social support initiatives, the Office provided financial assistance to indigent residents, students, patients with urgent medical needs, small business owners, and economically vulnerable households. The intervention formed part of a broader effort to cushion economic hardship and improve the living conditions of disadvantaged groups.
A major highlight of the programme was a large-scale disbursement exercise held at De-Blue, LTV Compound, Alausa, where no fewer than 1,000 beneficiaries received direct support during a single intervention event. Beneficiaries included women, senior citizens, and Persons With Disabilities, who were prioritised as key target groups under the initiative.
The Office also announced the expansion of its intervention phases to accommodate a wider range of support services, including direct cash grants, medical assistance, educational support, housing interventions, and business start-up funding aimed at promoting economic empowerment and self-reliance.
In the area of peacebuilding and civic engagement, the Office sustained proactive efforts through its Conflict Resolution and Volunteerism Programme designed to strengthen social harmony and participatory governance across Lagos State.
According to the Office, structured dialogue, mediation, and negotiation mechanisms were successfully deployed to address protests, stakeholder disputes, agency-community disagreements, land conflicts, compensation issues, and communal tensions.
A total of 34 groups were engaged through consensus-building platforms, while 35 mediation sessions were conducted within the current operational cycle. These interventions significantly enhanced collaboration between government institutions, community leaders, and residents, thereby fostering social cohesion and strengthening public trust.
To further promote civic responsibility, the Office organised a sensitisation programme themed, “Volunteerism: The Power of Community in Action,” which focused on mobilising citizens toward active community participation and service delivery advocacy.
The initiative also led to the onboarding of 44 Community Champions tasked with driving grassroots mobilisation, civic awareness, and community advocacy across the five IBILE divisions of Lagos State.
The Office disclosed that cumulative sensitisation efforts under the volunteerism programme have now reached 5,378 residents since inception, with increased engagement recorded among youths, Civil Society Organisations, Persons With Disabilities, and other community stakeholders.
Reaffirming its commitment to responsive governance and inclusive development, the Office stated that it would continue to champion citizen-government collaboration, shared responsibility, and strategic community engagement in line with the broader vision of building a Greater Lagos.
