  The Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR) has strongly condemned what it described as a “barbaric and reprehensible” attack on peaceful women protesters at the Kwara State Government House in Ilorin, calling for urgent government intervention and accountability. In a press release issued on Wednesday, CHSR said the women, who had gathered to protest the continued kidnapping of their relatives in Oke-Ode community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, were violently assaulted by men allegedly armed with canes while security personnel reportedly failed to intervene. The suspects, apprehended onboard MT Thor, are facing trial for allegedly transporting illegally sourced petroleum products. The arrest, announced at Koko Port in Delta State, was carried out by Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSNL), a pipeline surveillance firm. Executive Director of Operations at Tantita, Captain Warredi Enisouh, stated that the vessel was intercepted on December 15, 2025, with an unspecified quantity of suspected crude oil. WARDC urges FG, states to subsidise tranexamic acid to curb maternal deaths

  The Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) has called on the Federal and State Governments to subsidise and include tranexamic acid (TXA) in standard delivery kits across public health facilities, while ensuring its consistent availability at all levels of care. The call was made by WARDC Director, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, at the closing ceremony of Project TRANSFORM, a 12-month community-based intervention aimed at reducing maternal mortality in Nigeria through improved awareness, access and advocacy for tranexamic acid. The project was implemented with technical and research support from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Fire Guts 22-Storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island

A major fire outbreak on Wednesday engulfed the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House located on Martins Street, Lagos Island, prompting a large-scale emergency response from state and federal agencies. According to a situation report released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire was already well developed when the Shark Response Team arrived at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from an apartment on the 4th floor of the building before spreading rapidly to other sections of the floor and escalating upward to the 6th floor, with the risk of further spread within the high-rise structure.   The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a Beniniose couple and an alleged accomplice before an Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court over the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man identified as Mr. Ayoola Bello.   Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has commended first responders in the state for their resilience and dedication to emergency and disaster management throughout the outgoing year. Dr Sanwo-Olu gave the commendation at the Christmas Carol Service organised by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) at Alausa, Ikeja. The carol service was held with the theme “King of Kings.” Speaking at the event, the First Lady described the carol service as an opportunity to give thanks to God for the successes recorded by LASEMA in the year.
